The predecessor of the company, Chongqing Electric Machinery Factory, was founded in 1927 and was the first "state-owned" electrical appliance factory in China established by the former Military Commission of the National Revolutionary Army in Shanghai.
In 1945, due to the Anti Japanese War, it was relocated to Hualongqiao, Chongqing. Prior to liberation, it became the Chongqing Electrical Equipment Factory of the former National Government Resource Committee, producing 70% of the country's production of "Jiandian" brand electric motors, batteries, and transceivers.
In its long history of development, the factory has successively cultivated Chongqing Light Bulb Factory, Chongqing Battery Factory, and Chongqing Transformer Factory (later jointly established as ABB), making great contributions to the economic construction of the country and Chongqing.
CEMF was established on January 18, 2001. It is a diversified enterprise formed through asset restructuring of Chongqing Electric Machinery Factory, a former state-owned enterprise.
In November 2011, the company relocated from Yuqing Temple in Jiulongpo District, Chongqing to Zone C of Jiulong Industrial Park in Chongqing High tech Zone. The first phase investment was 350 million yuan, and a modern motor manufacturing enterprise stood on a new starting line.
